The Kingston Community Foundation was established on the 13th June 2024 and endorsed with Deductible Gift Recipient status on the 29th January 2025 by the Australian Tax Office.
The purpose of the Foundation is to establish for Kingston a community managed capital fund, the earnings to be distributed annually to the nominated beneficiaries. This will save many hours in voluntary fund raising to look after the key Kingston community organisations into the future.
The nominated beneficiaries are –
- Kingston Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
- Kingston Community School Building Fund.
- Kingston SE Branch of the National Trust.
The first project is for the Foundation to acquire the Old Kingston Wool Store and to lease the property to a restaurateur which will provide an income stream to benefit the beneficiaries for many years.
Why buy The Old Woolstore?
- It is a heritage listed building and of significant historical interest to Kingston.
- With the Foundation acquiring the property it ensures that the Old Wool Store remains a community asset.
- The site has a liquor licence for 100 patrons being the largest such facility in Kingston.
- The purchase includes the inventory of plant and equipment comprising some 7,000 items.
- The Old Wool Store had been a thriving food, drink, and entertainment venue until 2019 when the owners tragically died in a road accident. Since then, Kingston’s dining options have been restricted and locals, visitors and holiday makers are keen to see the restaurant back in business.
- The location in the commercial centre of town will give the successful restaurateur a great opportunity.
- The Wool Store will be owned debt free by the Foundation allowing most of the Foundation’s income to be distributed annually.
